How much marijuana does a hemp plant produce? Here is the answer

How much marijuana does a hemp plant produce?

Modified on: 19/04/2024

EACH VARIETY OF HEMP PLANT IS PREDISPOSED TO PRODUCE A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF MARIJUANA

But if some have an excellent yield (there are types that can reach up to 1,500 grams per plant!), others need a lot of attention to obtain discrete results, while still others are inevitably unproductive.

In this article we see what are the most important factors that guarantee the good yield of a cannabis plant, including soil quality, available spaces, lighting and variety.

How much can a hemp plant produce?

In fact, it is not easy to answer this question in a direct and universal way, because there are so many factors involved.

With a good degree of approximation, let’s say that a cannabis plant can produce from 0 to 1, 500 grams of cannabis Who knows how many hashish !

But, as we said earlier, there are several factors on which the productivity of the plant can depend, such as:

the type (so if you choose to grow cannabis sativa or cannabis indica);
the composition of the soil, nutrients and the use of fertilizers;
the hours of exposure to light (taking advantage of the phenomenon of photosynthesis, plants undoubtedly need it; for indoor cannabis cultivation, LED lamps are recommended);
if you choose to grow autoflowering or photoperiodic cannabis plants;
if you opt for growing indoors or outdoors;
last, but not least, the productivity of a plant depends on the skill of its grower.

The goal now is to analyze two of the most important factors, which are the composition of the soil (and therefore the importance of nutrients) and indoor/outdoor cultivation.

Productivity of marijuana plant

Let’s say right away that, to be cultivated, the marijuana plant needs three macronutrients

nitrogen,
phosphorus,
potassium,

and various micronutrients, such as calcium, iron, sulfur, magnesium, zinc, etc.

The amount of these substances is altered according to the growth phase of the plant: in other words, if it is in the vegetative phase, for example, it will need more nitrogen and potassium than at the time of flowering.

Here the skill and professionalism of the grower come into play: knowing what the plant needs at each stage is essential for its good yield. Over-fertilization is a mistake to avoid like an iceberg: the goal is to meet the needs of the plant without ‘loading’ it with substances it does not need.

To avoid making mistakes, there are special compounds on the market with all the substances that your seedling needs.

However, a few words should be spent on autoflowering, because they require a different type of attention: unlike other species, they need fewer nutrients and prefer softer soils with greater air circulation.

Indoor or outdoor cultivation? The differences for a good yield of the cannabis plant.

Determining the productivity of a marijuana plant it is not easy. However, it is possible to present an estimate by taking into account some parameters that can affect its yield.

Indoor cultivation

More water, more maintenance

Having small plants allows novice growers to control them more easily. In fact, the larger they are, the greater their need for water and nutrients. Let’s say that the ideal size is around one meter in height.

Undoubtedly, a large plant can occupy a space that would be difficult to manage indoors: precisely to make its optimal performance, experienced growers carry out the so-called training process.

The question of space is one of the reasons why the productivity of an indoor grown cannabis plant is measured in g/sqm.

Lighting andatt

Needless to say, lighting plays a fundamental role in the growth and good yield of the plant. To date, LED lamps are the most recommended for their excellent performance. They can be used with a low attitude and do not overheat immediately, so they are preferable to CFL or HPS lights.

The size of the pots

Growing plants in large enough containers can contribute to a good profitability of the plant, because it stimulates its growth. So, instead of decanting the plant whenever it has reached such a size that it requires a larger pot, it is better to cut off the head of the bull and choose one that allows the roots to expand with peace of mind.

Indicatively, if your plant is about 90 cm, you can opt for an 11 liter pot.

The availability of space

If you have so much space, you can decide to do two things: have more plants or decide to continue growing the ones you have. If well fed and watered, they can reach considerable sizes, so they will need a lot of space for a good yield.

Finally, make sure that the temperature and lighting are satisfactory for each specimen: you certainly would not want one of them to remain in dim light and stop producing inflorescences!

Outdoor cultivation

Unlike the previous situation in which we talked about indoor cultivation, when we are dealing with outdoor cultivation, the scenario is very different: the plants will certainly have more space and light and therefore a higher level of yield (in optimal conditions).

Precisely because there are no problems with space, it is advisable to use pots of at least 25 liters: in this way, the plants will be able to grow freely and reach considerable sizes.

Obviously, the size of the container is not a symptom of good or bad income, because the most important aspects are the light and the supply of the right nutrients. As mentioned above, a large pot stimulates the growth of the plant and promotes the free development of the roots.

At this point, it is advisable to make a consideration about the type of plant that you choose to grow. Autoflowering plants normally grow faster than photoperiod plants: to be precise, the former take two-thirds of the time to mature than the latter.

In addition, while photoperiodics bloom in summer and offer only one harvest, autoflowering can offer up to three in a row!

However, the latter have a more or less equal degree of yield both indoors and outdoors, while photoperiods tend to be more productive when grown outdoors.

Conclusions

In this article we have seen that the productivity of a cannabis plant is not a certain objective fact, but that there are several common elements.

In summary, the following are important: the type of plant chosen, the constitution of the soil, the supply of nutrients, the quantity of water, the lighting, the availability of space (therefore indoor/outdoor cultivation) and the skill of the hemp grower. .
